How do I determine the correct friction material for my particular application? First, answer the following four questions:

  1. Is this a dry service or "oil bath" application?
  2. What C.O.F. is required?
  3. Is the application a static or dynamic requirement?
    • Static requires high C.O.F. at low pressure and speed.
    • Dynamic requires good friction values through a range of temperatures, rubbing speed and pressure
  4. Is it an internal or external brake application?
Take the answers to the above questions, and any specialty requirements (i.e., splined facing, full or segmented facing), and apply them using the Materials Selection Chart for all types of products available.
